He had very high fever soon after the incident. However, the fever has come down but still remains. The nail pierced the leg pretty deep. He has had his tetanus shot within the last 10 years. Does he still have a fever? Is his leg or foot red, swollen or tender? He may have an infection and needs antibiotics. Maybe another tetanus shot. The rusty nail goes deep into the tissues and can set up a nasty infection. He needs to be checked by his doctor as soon as possible.

This happened to my Dad many years ago. He got blood poisoning and then they wanted to amputate his leg, but he died.
