Ways to relieve cracked skin right next to the nail?

I sat down at school, and as I sat down, my thumb touched the metal part on the desk, it shocked, cracked, and started bleeding... (ow). I've been putting lotion on more frequently now. Is there any way I can relieve this?Ways to relieve cracked skin right next to the nail?

carry around some vaseline or vitamin e oil and rub in on your fingers then put your lotion on afterwards. make sure to drink enough water.
