It's difficult to describe, but say you have a tiny bump on your upper back for whatever reason. Why is it that if you were to drag your nail over it while applying slight pressure you feel a sharp (but not necessarily painful) sensation elsewhere on your body?
In this case I ran my nail over a tiny bump on my upper back on my right side and felt a sharp sensation in my lower left side. Why is it that if you drag your nail over a bump on your skin you feel a sharp sensation elsewhere?
check the paper on mirror neurons, bud. it'll answer your questionWhy is it that if you drag your nail over a bump on your skin you feel a sharp sensation elsewhere?
I know what you're talking about... just my theory, I think when you scratch a spot it sends a signal to your brain, and the brain sends a response back and you feel the pain, but I am guessing that maybe sometimes it sends signals to random places and that's why you feel it elsewhere. I could be totally wrong, but I have wondered that myself before.
It's called referred pain. For some issues it is very common. Gallstones will often refer pain to the stomach or even the back.
